Apple has launched the world's thinnest notebook, a new member of the MacBook family (MacBook, MacBook Pro), the stylish and slim MacBook Air, which is 0.16 inches (about 4mm) at its thinnest point and 0.76 inches (about 19.4mm) at its thickest point.

On February 19, 2008, Apple released the world's thinnest laptop at that time - the Macbook Air [1] (hereinafter referred to as MBA). This 13.3-inch LED screen laptop was only 4mm (average thickness) at its thinnest point. It's simply a replica of the X505 that SONY launched four years ago (chocolate keyboard, average 1.5CM, data from: [2]). The visual beauty created by MBA is hard to describe in words. The reason why MBA can be so thin mainly lies in the adoption of LED screens and special processors. The processor used by MBA is specially customized by Intel for Apple. This customized processor also belongs to the Core 2 series, but its area is much smaller than that of the standard Core 2 processor. The power consumption is also significantly lower. The application of this custom Core 2 processor not only benefits the lightness and thinness of the MBA but also provides excellent support for its good heat dissipation, making the MBA the computer with the least heat generation in the Mac series. The first batch of Mbas released are equipped with the P7500 processor model, with a main frequency of 1.6GHz, 4M L2 cache and 800MHz front-side bus. They do not use the ultra-low voltage version processor. It is estimated that Apple also hopes that the MBA will have a considerable performance and does not want it to become a purely portable product.

In October 2010, Apple released the second-generation MBA. This upgrade has brought two models to the MBA: the traditional 13.3-inch and the newly added 11.6-inch. Their most distinctive feature is that they use flash memory instead of hard disks. 64GB to 256GB of flash memory is directly embedded in the motherboard, saving a huge amount of space to store batteries. This increases the usage time of the 13.3-inch model to 7 hours.

In July 2011, Apple upgraded its MBA program again. The brand-new MBA is equipped with dual-core Intel Core i5 and quad-core Core i7 processors, achieving a leap in performance. After this upgrade, Apple's entry-level notebook Macbook disappeared from the official website, leaving only the Macbook Air and Macbook Pro in the Mac notebook family. This also means that MBA, an ultra-portable notebook, already has the performance and economy of a regular notebook.

In the early morning of June 12, 2012, Apple released the new MacBook Air notebook computer (the fourth generation). According to the information, the new version of the MacBook Air adopts the Intel third-generation Core i5 dual-core processor (22-nanometer, code-named Ivy Bridge, with a main frequency of 1.7GHz, sharing 3M L3; the motherboard integrates the low-voltage version of 4GB 1600MHz DDR3L memory (which can be upgraded to 8GB at an additional cost). It adopts an SSD solid-state drive (the SSD has been solidified onto the motherboard), with a capacity of 64GB / 128GB (it can be upgraded to 256GB or 512GB for an additional fee). It is said that the speed can reach 500MB/s. It is unknown whether it uses a SandForce controller. Integrated with Intel HD Graphics 4000 graphics card, it provides 2 USB 3.0 interfaces and 1 Thunderbolt interface, supports Bluetooth 4.0, has a battery life of 5 hours, the whole machine weighs only 1.08 kilograms, and the thickest part is only 1.7 centimeters. The new version of MacBook Air will be available in the domestic market within this year. The official website of Apple China announced that the 11-inch MacBook Air starts at RMB 7,388. The 13-inch MacBook Air starts at RMB 8,888.

According to Apple's official introduction, the battery life of the 11-inch MacBook Air can reach up to 9 hours, which is nearly double that of the previous generation. The 13-inch version can last up to 12 hours.

In terms of performance, the MacBook Air using the fourth-generation Intel Core series will have a 40% increase in image processing performance. Both the 11-inch and 13-inch versions will be available with 128GB and 256GB SSD options.

When it comes to the price issue, the domestic prices of the new 11-inch Macbook Air are 7,388 yuan (128GB flash memory) and 8,888 yuan (256GB flash memory). The 13-inch models are priced at 8,888 yuan (128GB flash memory) and 9,688 yuan (256GB flash memory).

Since the launch of Apple's MacBook series of laptops in 2005, they have become a powerful "money-making" tool for Apple, generating over 47.9% of the company's annual net profit in every corner of the world. The newly launched MacBook Air adopts the latest "wedge" design in appearance. The thickest part is 1.8 cm and the thinnest part is 0.3 cm. The design from wide to narrow is simple and fashionable. Moreover, the MacBookAir places the motherboard on the rear half of the thicker computer. Even when held by hand, the arm can remain cool and refreshing all the time. In addition, for the requirement that a computer can stand by for a long time, the MacBook Air also becomes the best choice. With a battery life of 7 hours and a standby time of 30 days, it can be awakened at any time with just a light touch of your hand.

Equipped with the new generation of Intel processors, graphics processors and faster flash memory, this daily-use notebook computer performs even more impressively.
